Katie Brabec knew at a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in accounting, even before she knew exactly what that would entail.

“I used to help my dad when I was young when he would do the bookkeeping for his farm,” said Katie. “He would let me add up the rows of income and expenses on the calculator and I thought that was the neatest thing. Ever since then I said I wanted to be an accountant. However now I laugh because that is not really what I do at all.”

I have always lived in the country outside of my time spent at college and shortly after.

There was 12 people including me in my high school graduation class.

I enjoy spending time with our large family – I have 15 nieces and nephews as well as 16 great nieces and nephews.

 Katie served as an Intern at Bland & Associates (Bland) from 2009 to 2010 and started her professional career at the firm directly from college in 2010, ultimately working her way up to her current position as Director of Payment Integrity in the Government Consulting department. In this role, she oversees Bland’s financial examination contracts for various federal agencies.

Katie attributes her success in the accounting field to her attention to detail and ability to patiently work through tough challenges. By demonstrating a personal investment in her clients and team and contributing to a positive work environment, she closely relates to Bland’s mission.

“I relate to the Bland mission by trying to make a fulfilling workplace experience every day,” Katie said. “I want to make sure that everyone working at Bland & Associates at the end of the day had a fulfilling day and it is not just another job to them. If the employees are happy the experience for the clients is so much better.”

Katie graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Accounting in 2010. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and playing sports with her kids.
