DeVon Billups was drawn to a career in accounting because of his love of helping people. He attributes his success in the field to his work ethic and people-first attitude.

“I think that excellent client service stems from just treating people like people,” DeVon said. “They are not their business, nor are they how much money they make. When you take a person first mentality, that resonates with people.”

DeVon joined Bland & Associates (Bland) as an Intern in 2011 and started his professional accounting career at Bland directly from college in 2016 as an Associate. He gained experience in Tax Preparation and Tax Consulting, Business Operations and Consulting, and Data and Ratio Analytics and ultimately worked his way up to his current role as Manager in the Tax Department.

DeVon brings a team-first mentality to his role as Manager. By providing quality guidance to his clients and team, being genuine, and helping and educating others, he closely relates to Bland’s mission.

“I like to push and challenge my coworkers to do their best and be independent and grow,” DeVon said. “I do not hover or micromanage, which helps them find their own methods, processes and voice on the team, which in turn makes the team have more diverse viewpoints.”

DeVon graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
