Kathleen “Cookie” Reuman Retires from Bland & Associates

After an incredible 34 years of dedication and service, it is both exciting and bittersweet to announce the retirement of Kathleen “Cookie” Reuman from Bland & Associates. Cookie’s journey with the firm began in 1990 when she joined a small team of 10-15 employees at the original location on 65th and Grover. Over the years, she has witnessed and been a part of the firm’s growth into the bustling organization it is today, now housed in the Regency office with over 100 accounting professionals.

When Cookie started, she worked alongside company founder Jerry Bland, who quickly became not only a mentor but also a friend. When Jerry retired, Cookie wasn’t sure if she would stay at Bland. However, she knew the firm was in capable hands with the new leadership group and continued her career for more than another decade, bringing the same level of commitment and excellence she has since day one.

Over her 34-year tenure, Cookie became known for her impeccable accuracy. She started her career processing tax returns and later expanded her role to include audit reports. Cookie took great pride in her work, always ensuring it was 100% correct. “I may not have the most important job at Bland,” she humbly shared, “but I take great pride in what I do.” Her attention to detail was driven by her deep care for clients, knowing that even the smallest mistake could affect them, something she would never allow.

As Cookie embarks on this next chapter of her life, she and her husband plan to travel the country in their 5th wheel camper, with hopes of Montana as their first stop. “The mountains look incredible,” Cookie says excitedly. Beyond travel, she also looks forward to dedicating more time to causes close to her heart. Cookie wants to be actively involved in the “Night to Shine” prom for people with disabilities, a mission near and dear to her as her daughter has special needs.

Additionally, Cookie has plans to train an Austrian Shepard therapy dog, with hopes of bringing joy and comfort to nursing home residents. “I was raised by my grandma, and she was my whole world,” she shares, explaining her passion for giving back to the elderly community.

For those wondering where the name “Cookie” came from, the story is as endearing as the person. During her time on a corporate softball team, Cookie made a playful Star Wars joke, and her nickname started as “Wookie.” It didn’t take long for it to evolve into “Cookie,” and the name has stuck ever since.

As we say farewell to Cookie, we do so with immense gratitude for her decades of dedication and care. She has left an indelible mark on the firm and all of her colleagues. Please join us in wishing Cookie and her family all the best in this exciting new chapter of life.
